The DPW at Tittabawassee Township operates and maintains 48+ miles of water main, 24+ miles of sewer main, seven wastewater pumping stations, and 431 fire hydrants.  They are also responsible for the entire operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant including a field laboratory where analysis of the wastewater is conducted daily.

Each year the Township purchases approximately 200 + million gallons of drinking water from the City of Saginaw.  The Township has 1600 customers connected to the water system.  The largest customer is the Saginaw Regional Correctional Facility.

The Tittabawassee Township Wastewater Treatment Plant treats approximately 200 million gallons per year.  It  discharges water to the Tittabawassee River following the treatment process.  The quality of the water discharged to the river is very good, in fact better than the quality of the river water.

Frequent Asked Questions:

What is the round metal thing in my yard?  The “curb valve” is a valve located in the yard near the water main.  It is used to isolate a single service line from the water main.  It is important that this shut off valve is not covered or buried and should be protected from vehicles.  It should be at ground level.  If it is not at ground level, please contact the DPW to have it adjusted.  There is no cost to have this done.

Do I need Inspections?  All new installations of water and sewer services are required to be inspected by the DPW. Please call the DPW for more information.

Can you help me with a sewer problem?  If a sewer problem occurs, please contact the DPW before acquiring a service company.  We will come out to check our main sewer lines to determine if the problem is in the main sewer line or the service line.  If the problem is in the main line, the Township will correct the problem.

What is the black box on the outside of my house? This is a remote device wired to your water meter inside your house to register your water usage. Please keep the area around this device clear.  If it is not working properly, we will need access to correct the problem.

I saw someone turning a valve or using a hydrant, do I call some one?  Yes.  For the security of our drinking water, call the Department of Public Works, or after hours call 911 if you see anyone other than a DPW worker or Fireman using a hydrant or turning a valve.

I see a wet spot continuously on the ground, is this normal?  It may or may not be a water leak.  Please call the DPW and we will check it.  Taking care of water leaks quickly helps to control the cost of water to all of our customers.

What are those ponds at the Department of Public Works?  This is the Wastewater Treatment Facility.  It is where wastewater is treated and recycled.
